Ward Development Board
The Laikipia county ward development fund was introduced in the county in 2014, with the passage of Laikipia county wards development fund bill, 2014. The primary objective of the fund is to address poverty at grassroots level by dedicating a minimum of 2.5% of the county ordinary revenue and transfers received from the National Government in accordance with Article 202 (1) and Article 203 (2) of the Constitution;
The ward development act 2014, provide for a legal framework for establishment of a Fund to promote county development at Ward level in order to –
(a) Promote economic growth and development in the county;
(b) Promote equity and equality in access to development services;
(c) Ensure rural and regional development within the county;
(d) Improve the standards of living among the residents of Laikipia;
(e) Promote interests of marginalized communities;
(f) Enhance provision and access to basic services such as health, education, transport and communication and water.
The fund is managed by a wards development fund board at the county level and ward fund development committees at the ward level targeting all ward-level development projects, particularly those aiming to combat poverty at the grassroots. The fund is shared equally across all Laikipia county fifteen wards.
